Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi will be laid to rest on Saturday, 16 September and not on Friday as was initially communicated.
This follows a decision made by the family which considered several factors that would have made arrangements for the funeral on Friday impractical.
The Traditional Prime Minister of the Zulu Monarch, and President Emeritus of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) will receive a Special Official Funeral Category One.
“Further, the family sought to accommodate the State processes following the declaration by President Cyril Ramaphosa that the funeral will be a Special Official Funeral Category One.
The family has expressed gratitude to the President for categorizing the funeral as a Special Official Funeral Category One, saying this was a befitting recognition for the contribution and dedication the Prince of KwaPhindangene has made to South Africa.
The declaration of a Special Official Funeral Category One by President Rampahosa is an appropriate honour to the life and times of Umntwana waKwaPhindangene.
We call on all peace-loving people who appreciated Prince Buthelezi to uphold his legacy by conducting themselves in a manner befitting his stature.”
A memorial service for Prince Buthelezi is set to take place on Wednesday, 13 September in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal.
Daily prayer services will be held until the funeral which will take place at Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Regional Stadium in Ulundi at 09h00 on Saturday.
