Dr Nandipha Magudumana’s bail application was denied in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Monday, 11 September, with Magistrate Estelle de Lange calling Thabo Bester’s accomplice a flight risk.
Magudumana bowed her head and prayed before de Lange made the ruling on her bail application.
However, her hopes were dashed when de Lange said this is a woman who once abandoned her two children, and her work to assist her convicted rapist and murderer boyfriend.
“She has two young children, who are currently living with their father. She has friends, other relatives in South Africa. She was the owner of a business in Gauteng, and it appears that she is also involved in other business ventures.
On the other hand, she apparently left all of this behind to leave this country with accused No.5 (Thabo Bester.)
For a place that is still not known to us. She was found in Tanzania, even though she claims that she was kidnapped by accused No.5, I find that she did not satisfy the court in the interest of justice for her to be released on bail.
It is however in the interest of justice, that matters be tried, and that a verdict be obtained in a court of law.
This can only happen if a person stands trial.
Therefore, her application to be released on bail is refused.”
