Mpho Phalatse who has resigned as a DA PR councillor will going back into the health care sector.
Mpho Phalatse, a former mayor of Johannesburg, has resigned as a DA PR councillor for the City of Johannesburg.
Phalatse participated in Johannesburg’s mayoral committee for health and social development from 2016 to 2019.
After the 2021 local government elections, she was elected as the City of Johannesburg’s first black female mayor. She was removed from office earlier this year after a motion of no confidence was approved.

On what’s next for her career
Speaking to on an exclusive interview with Kaya News she revealed that she would be going back to the health care sector.
“I will be practicing and will be going back into the health care sector in its various forms. I will also be looking for opportunities in public health sector.” said Phalatse
On her involvement with the Democratic Alliance moving forward
“I am still a member of the party, however health care is very demanding, that is why I gave up everything when I became a public representative. It is very difficult for me to straddle both roles, and I have been struggling to do both. I have been struggling to be active politically, and in health care so I have to choose one if I am to do it well. It looks like in the short-term I will be more active in my health career.” said Phalatse
On support from the DA during her tenure
“I would obviously say no, but someone would say yes they have received enough support. I had my differences with the party, and they were all differences in approach when certain issues were concerned. There were instances where I would have enjoyed more support, where I felt I did not get the support I needed. My perspective was about what I thought needed to happened, while other people believed something else ought to have happen.” said Phalatse,
