Former Operation Dudula leader, Nhlanhla Lux, was handed a 5-year suspended sentence at the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Friday, 25 August.
Lux was found guilty of housebreaking in 2022, when he and Operation Dudula members entered the home of Victor Ramerafe in Dobsonville without a search warrant.
Ramerafe was accused by Operation Dudula of being a drug dealer in the community, and Lux’s members ransacked the elderly man’s home.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) helped Ramerafe open a case of trespassing, housebreaking, and malicious damage to property against Lux.
Ramerafe said when he asked Nhlanhla Lux where his search warrant was, he was threatened, and sat helplessly while his home was violated. No drugs were found on Ramerafe’s property, or in his possession.
“I asked Nhlanhla where’s your search warrant and he told me, ‘I don’t have time for search warrants, give me the drugs that are in this house.’ I told him if you find it, go take it.”
The Soweto Parliament leader was handed the 5-year suspended sentence on the conditions that he is not convicted of housebreaking, and malicious damage to property during his period of suspension.
Lux was also ordered to pay Ramerafe R9 500 for damages to his property, which the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), confirm was settled within the stipulated timeframe.
