Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Faith Muthambi, is set to meet with the leadership of the National House of Traditional Leaders (NHTL) after a naked woman was seen in the background of a participant who was taking part in a virtual meeting on Tuesday night.
Muthambi was meeting with NHTL officials when the woman walked into the room where traditional leader, Xolile Ndevu was explaining how the province was working with medical doctors.
In a video clip, which has since gone viral, the woman is seen opening a cupboard door before walking behind Ndevu, completely naked. Her breasts and bum could be seen in full view of the other participants of the meeting, including a visibly flustered Muthambi.
Realising what had just happened, Ndevu then puts his head in his hands and looks down.
At this point, Muthambi asks Ndevu if the woman is aware that he is in a meeting.
“Inkosi, the person behind you is not properly dressed. We are seeing everything. Please Inkosi, did you tell them you are in a meeting? It is very disturbing what we are seeing,” Muthambi exclaimed.
She added that this was not the first time that something like this had happened.
Muthambi then NHTL chairperson, Inkosi Sipho Mahlangu, it was not the first time such an incident happened.
““It is not happening for the first time. Whenever we are meeting with you, we see these unruly pictures,” she said.
Ndevu is heard apologising profusely.
“I’m very sorry. I was focusing on the camera and not behind me. I’m so embarrassed, chair,” he said.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Muthambi said they were aware that the video was trending on social media.
“The meeting was an engagement between the committee and the NHTL on, among other things, initiation, particularly on the death of initiates in initiation schools,” she said.
She further distanced the committee from the footage.
“The naked woman was not part of the meeting. She was in the same room where the participant in the meeting was. We regret and condemn the incident in the strongest terms,” she said.
She added that she had urged participants in a virtual meeting to ensure that their computer screens show acceptable backgrounds behind each participant in the meeting.
“It is regrettable that this kind of footage, which is embarrassing the committee, happens for the second time in meetings between the committee and the NHTL. I am going to engage with the leadership of the NHTL” she said.
Last year, an official from the Independent Development Trust faced disciplinary action after he “attended” a virtual meeting without a shirt on.
The man, who was identified as Christopher Mulaudzi was seen lying in bed during the parliamentary meeting while Public Works and Infrastructure Minister, Patricia de Lille, answered questions.
The man’s faux pas was spotted by African Christian Democratic Party MP, Wayne Thring.
The man is believed to have exited the meeting.
According to a statement that was later released, the IDT confirmed that the employer had been lying in bed, topless and only wearing shorts.
The IDT condemned the man’s behaviour, adding that it undermined the decorum of the meeting.
