Swift response by the South African Police Service (SAPS) meant a planned cash-in-transit heist was foiled over the weekend, with five suspects arrested.
A team comprising of members from the Johannesburg Flying Squad, TRT , JMPD K9, EMPD STT, Gauteng Traffic, and Guerilla Tactical Services acted on intelligence relating to suspects who were planning a cash-in-transit robbery in the Eden Park area.
Safe houses that were identified, were taken down during an operation, and five suspects were arrested at the first house in Eden Park.
Suspects were found in possession of two rifles, pistols and ammunition. All firearms were unlicensed.
The team were then led to the recovery of two vehicles, which were established as hijacked after being processed.

At a second safe house in Alberton, south of Johannesburg, police found one vehicle, which was also processed as hijacked.
The five men arrested were charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and possession of hijacked vehicles.
In a separate incident, police in Eldorado Park arrested two suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms, on Saturday, 12 August.
Flying Squad members who were conducting daily patrols, noticed a suspicious vehicle speeding off when seeing police.
They were cornered and when searched, police found a firearm with the serial number filed off, and ammunition.
All suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant Elias Mawela, commended teams for their swift response which resulted in arrests and recovery of unlicensed firearms.
