KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a massive manhunt for four men suspected of being behind the mass shooting in Umlazi, Q Section on Friday night, 11 August.
The horrific shooting claimed the lives of 6 people, leaving 1 person in a critical condition in hospital.
It has been reported that the four armed men stormed into a house just before midnight, and opened fire.
Two people who were inside the house were shot, one person was shot inside a backroom, while the fourth person was shot next to an outside toilet.
The fourth victim was also found with burn wounds.
Police say the suspects then proceeded to an informal settlement, just a few meters away from the house they invaded, where they shot three more people inside a shack.
Two of these victims were certified dead on scene, while the third was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that one of the suspects, who was leading the other three, demanded his identity document from the victims before shooting them.
It is believed that he was implicated and is wanted by police for another murder, in which he allegedly dropped his identity document accidentally. Reports indicate that he believed one of the deceased were in possession of his identity document.
Three of the suspects have been identified, and a 72-hour mobilization of maximum resources has been activated in search of the suspects.”
