Banyana Banyana defeated by Netherlands in the knockout stage.
With a commanding 2-0 victory in Sydney on Sunday, the Netherlands put an end to South Africa’s historic maiden journey into the knockout stages of the Women’s World Cup.
2023 has already been a historic tournament for the side, especially after a dramatic winner from Kgatlana in stoppage time last Wednesday secured a 3-2 victory over Italy, her team’s first ever win at this tournament.
Banyana Banyana also came within minutes of drawing against Sweden, another more fancied opponent, in its opening match at this tournament.

“We created chances but we made errors in critical stages.”
“I’m very proud of the players. We put up a fight. The fatigue started setting in, in the second half. South Africa can be proud of this team.”
