Rusty Rocks Events has chosen to stand by gospel singer Kelly Khumalo amid the controversy surrounding her with regards to the ongoing Senzo Meyiwa trial.
The singer who was dating the slain Bafana Bafana captain at the time of his death, has been dropped from two events due to public backlash, and mounting calls for Kelly “to be cancelled.”
This due to revelations in the trial which suggests Kelly may have been in contact with one of the men accused of killing Meyiwa, days before the “botched home invasion” at the Khumalos’ Vosloorus home, on 26 October 2014.
SAPS National Cold Case Unit Colonel Lambertus Steyn revealed cellphone data suggesting Kelly was called twice by accused No.5, Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli.
The two occasions Kelly and Ntuli made contact were on, 02 August 2014, and then again on 15, October 2014, just days before Meyiwa was gunned down.
After this shocking claim was made on 27 July, the mother of Meyiwa’s daughter, has since been removed from the lineup at a Women’s Tribute event, and the Maseru Jazz Music Festival.
Kelly who responded to her cancelled gigs, has the Rusty Rocks team standing firmly beside her, as the events company firmly stated the Empini hitmaker will be performing at the Sun City Superbowl on 12 August, as planned.
In a statement issued on Friday, 04 August, Rusty Rocks assured ticket holders that Kelly will grace the stage at the All4Women Music Concert.
“We would like to provide clarity on the performance of Miss Kelly Khumalo at our event, All4Women Music Concert which will be taking place at Sun City Resort Superbowl on Saturday, 12 August.
This statement comes amid growing calls from our patrons who bought tickets and are in panic mode because they do not know if she will be performing at our show.
We therefore wish to reiterate that Kelly will be performing at our event.
We look forward to a spectacular show.”
