In an exclusive sitdown on My Top 10 at 10 with Tbose, South African rapper K.O delved into the creation and success of some of his most iconic tracks.
Speaking about his hit record Cara Cara, K.O revealed his creative process and the magical moments that lead to its creation.
“As soon as I have an idea that I need to create a certain record that I know will probably break all records, I manifest it, and then the song falls on my lap. Before I even record it, I tell the guy, This is it, gents. It doesn’t happen to everyone. It’s like a lightbulb moment. With Cara Cara, I told the guys that this is the one that is going to break the barriers.”
Having maintained relevance in the music industry for nearly two decades, K.O shared the secret to his longevity.
“The reason I am still here is because I started looking at it like a corporation. I am no longer just an artist. I need to listen to the people that came behind me to make sure that I understand the future. There are a lot of people who are younger than myself. It is important to have a keen desire to learn from the younger ones and the older ones. In any line of business, learn every day.”
K.O’s 2022 single Sete has been a remarkable success, surpassing all his previous records. The rapper recounted the story behind the track, which started as an unexpected opportunity during a studio session with a Nigerian artist
“The guy didn’t resonate with the track we made. I still felt like there was something special in this track, so I went and recorded my part and sat with the song for a couple of weeks. I called Young Stunna and sent him the track. I called Blxckie to bring it closer to hip-hop, and that’s how the song came about,” said K.O
