Miss World SA has reportedly responded to racism allegations levelled against its Vice President (VP), Carolyn Baldwin Botha.
This after an audio clip with a racial slur, allegedly made by Botha was shared by Azapo Deputy President, Kekeletso Khena last week.
Botha, who slammed the allegations, can be heard having a telephonic conversation with someone over a sanitary pad drive, during which she blurts out that one of “her girls”, a pageant contestant, had to wait for more than an hour in a “K***** infested mall.”
The Miss World SA VP claims the audio clip had been digitally altered and denies making the racial slur.
On Tuesday, 25 July, The Citizen reports that Miss World SA has responded to the racism allegations made against Botha, asking for space, in order for the organisation to deal with the matter in a legally sound matter.
“Racism is abhorrent, demeaning, and unacceptable, importantly it is illegal. It is our hope that Ms. Botha’s assertions about the ill intent of the accusations are proven true.
While Ms. Botha works to clear her name, our focus must be on the work at hand and on the welfare of the young ladies who have placed their trust in us to protect them from bullying, discrimination, and, of course, the criminal act of racism with which South Africa continues to grapple with.”

Botha claims Khena is a disgruntled beauty queen who has orchestrated a smear campaign against her, and has since opened a case of intimidation against Khena, after allegedly receiving death threats.
