This week, streaming giant Netflix announced that its user base had increased by nearly 6 million following its crackdown on password sharing.
Netflix ended the quarter with a total of 238 million subscribers and profits of R27 billion.
After seeing a positive impact on revenues in markets where the crackdown on passwords had been implemented, Netflix is set to implement the crackdown in South Africa.
The streaming giant is set to implement paid-for-sharing options in South Africa.

Netflix released its first African animation, Supa Team 4, on July 20, 2023. Created by Zambian writer Malenga Mulendema, with South African animation studio Triggerfish and leading London-based kids’ entertainment specialist CAKE as producers and animation from Superprod Animation in France, the eight-part series celebrates the continent’s dynamic storytelling and showcases the strength, intelligence, and bravery within all young people.
