In 2018, Boity made her music scene debut with the release of her single Wuz Dat featuring Nasty C. The platinum-selling track catapulted her into music success, securing her performances at major music events. However, just as her career seemed poised for greater heights, Boity surprisingly slowed down, leaving many wondering about her sudden disinterest in music. This period would go on for three years.
Boity recently opened up about this hiatus publicly, shedding light on a “very messy and terrible contract situation” that she had briefly touched on in the first season of her reality show Own Your Throne.
“It was one of the reasons I decided to take a step back because I wanted to clean up that contract situation before I got back into music; hence, I took a three-year break. Navigating through that, you can never be too careful. Even the best of the best in the world have been screwed over because of the tiniest detail,” she revealed, highlighting the fact that one can never be too careful.
Boity notes that while the music industry has a lot of earning opportunities, many artists often get taken advantage of. “I wanted to know what I was getting myself into. It was very disheartening because you are doing something that is your talent and passion, and you get people who make you hate this thing. It has been difficult but worthwhile because it was a massive learning experience. You’ll literally sell your life away,” she said about her hiatus.
However, the 33-year-old’s circumstances have taken a positive turn since then. She has now joined forces with a new management team. “What is so exciting now about working with Aline is that they are so against this historic BS of treating artists as slaves to contracts. They are true believers in partnerships,” said Boity.
