Company by AKA is one of the records the rapper left for his fans before his untimely passing earlier this year. Over the last five months, Company has topped music charts across Mzansi and looks to continue to do so for some time.
AKA’s biggest rival, Cassper Nyovest revealed in a recent YouTube interview that Company is one of his favourite songs right now.
“I’ve always been a fan of good music and with the project of Kiernan, it is so hard for me. People don’t understand how hard it has been for me and they may take it however they want. Company is brilliant and every time I am in the club and I hear it I’m like this is such a big song,” said the rapper.
“It’s still one of my favourite songs and it is not every day you hear a song like that. It makes you feel so good. The way they put that song together is brilliant.”
Speaking about AKA’s passing, Nyovest said ‘It is a sensitive matter and you really have to think about what you are saying.’
“I realised that we live in a time where it is very easy to offend people so you always have to think about the things you say, especially with social media. When I first heard the news, even if I had just said ‘Rest In Peace’, it could have been misconstrued,” he said.
Cassper and AKA have music together
Cassper also revealed that he and AKA recorded music in the past that is in possession of Ganga beats. The music was recorded before their fallout. “We actually have music together that people have never heard. We made a few records together,” said Cassper.
Touching on the impact of their beef on the South African hip-hop landscape, the rapper said he didn’t know it would be as massive as it was.
“He was doing his thing and I was doing mine, and we went back and forth. I don’t know about him, but I don’t remember ever thinking we were carrying South African music. That was the most interesting thing in music,” he added.
Cassper also took his hat off to AKA and his lasting influence. “People don’t remember, but before AKA, hip-hop wouldn’t win awards like ‘Best Album’. I remember when he won ‘best album’ against Zahara. He changed a lot, man,” said Cassper.
