On Friday, it was announced that former Manchester United goalkeeper and Dutchman Edwin van der Sar, 52, was rushed to the hospital after suffering bleeding around his brain.
Kaya 959 understands that van der Sar fell ill while on holiday in Croatia. The Dutchman’s boyhood club, Ajax, revealed that his condition is ‘stable but concerning.’
“Edwin van der Sar will remain in intensive care for the time being. His condition is stable but still concerning. Ajax shares this information on behalf of Annemarie van der Sar, Edwin’s wife. The Van der Sar family, along with Ajax, is grateful and deeply touched by the many messages of support.”
The football community has been sending messages of support to the 52-year-old on social media.
During his career, Edwin van der Sar etched his name in Manchester United’s history books as one of the club’s most decorated goalkeepers.
In his six-year spell at United, van der Sar set various records, winning silverware along the way. In the 2008-2009 season, he went an astonishing 1,311 minutes without conceding a goal in the Premier League, surpassing the previous record held by Petr Cech.
