Nambitha Ben-Mwazi is one of South Africa’s most decorated thespians. The award-winning actress has over six Netflix credits under her name, including a cameo on the critically acclaimed Black Mirror.
The month of June marks exactly seven years since Nambitha decided to leave everything behind to chase her dream. Reflecting back, she says she ‘made the bold leap of faith’ to relentlessly pursue her calling of ‘being a storyteller full-time.’
“I left all I knew behind, including the Business Science corporate world I had worked so hard to be entrenched in. I knew God had a different purpose for me, the purpose of showcasing truth in ourselves,” shares Nambitha.
The actress notes that she’s ‘never done career anniversaries’, but after a recent meeting with her US and UK management, she was reminded to “take stock of my journey and growth as I continue to step into a new phase in my career.”
Ben-Mwazi expressed gratitude to everyone who has been part of her journey as a storyteller.
“Thank you to every person who has helped me with self-tapes: directors, cast mates, producers, channels, crew, viewers, church, family, and friends. It hasn’t been an easy road, but damn has it been worth it,” said Nambitha.
Chatting to 959 Breakfast in 2022, Nambitha revealed that she didn’t have a plan B when she got into the entertainment industry.
“I didn’t have something to come back to. I didn’t have something to lose. It was a friend that I had made who owns a comedy club that just opened up. He told me he loved my voice and I ended up being a host there,’ she said.
The actress started off greeting people and got promoted to ‘introducing the shows’ and also got to work on the back end of shows like the David Letterman Show. “I was really hungry to learn,” she added.
