Police have opened an inquest docket into the death of late ANC MP, Tina Joemat-Petterson, who passed away on 06 June at the age of 59.
National Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed that an autopsy report for Joemat-Petterson has been finalised and police are awaiting a final report from the Department of Health.
At the time of her death, Joemat-Petterson was embroiled in the middle of suspended Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s impeachment case.
Earlier this month, Mkhwebane shared audio clips of her husband, David Skosana and Joemat-Petterson, where the latter was reportedly trying to extort R600 000 from him.
Legal experts say an inquest docket is opened in circumstances where there are, at the time of death no obvious signs that the cause of death is unnatural.
Joemat-Petterson’s death was ruled at the time that she died of natural causes, however, there appears to be factors alluding to the late MP dying of unnatural causes.
An inquest docket is usually opened when there is a death linked to suicide, foul play, suspected criminal activity.
This is a developing story.
