K.O. responds to global downfall of Hip Hop music around the world.
K.O has responded to reports that no Hip Hop artist has had a number 1 album on Billboard in 2022.
As Amapiano’s massive momentum swept it off the charts throughout the years, South African hip hop struggled to stay relevant.
K.O along with DJ Uncle Waffles were recently nominated for Best International Act at the BET Awards 2023.
Rappers like K.O, Nasty C, Emtee, and the late AKA kept the flame of rap music alive, but in recent months it’s been a different story.
Mr. CashTime was spoke out about a US article that stated, “No Hip Hop album or song has hit no. 1 in 2023.”
“A trickle down effect sadly. Already been tough for mainstream hiphop in SA and clearly the worst is yet to come seeing this is the current state in US hiphop. SA rappers oughta adapt or get left,” wrote K.O.

According to Billboard, any genre will find it much more challenging to take the top spot if its most well-known and dependable musicians are not putting out new music.
They also mentioned how in 2022, Hip-hop’s powerhouses swamped the charts at the beginning of the year with a plethora of albums. Nobody was surprised when Future, Kendrick Lamar, Drake (twice), and Tyler, the Creator all scored No. 1 albums last year.
