124 fake doctors operating in SA have been arrested.
Minister of Health Joe Phaahla has stated that 124 bogus doctors have been detained.
IOL reports that this happened following a raid by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
According to Phaahla, unregistered doctors circumvent the system by working in the private sector, where they can get monetary payments, or by joining the practices of registered physicians.
Phaahla claimed that several of the bogus doctors had been arrested thanks to the searches on their workplaces.

“According to the Health Professions Council of South Africa, 124 persons have been arrested for practising medicine without registration with the HPCSA,” said Phaahla.
In response to a written parliamentary inquiry from Vuyo Zungula of the ATM, Phaahla stated, "According to the Health Professions Council of South Africa, 124 persons have been arrested for practising medicine without registration with the HPCSA."
