Tete Dijana wins 2023 Comrades Marathon, 2 years in a row.
On Sunday Comrades Marathon at the Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban saw records fall as Tete Morena Dijana won the Comrades Marathon for the second year in a row with a timing of 5 hours, 13 minutes, and 58 seconds.
In 2019, North West native Dijana beat David Gatebe’s previous fastest time of 5:18:19 by more than four minutes.
Tete Dijana’s outstanding performance earned him R1.2m in total.
— R500 000 for winning the Comrades Marathon 2023,
— R500 000 for breaking the record
— and an extra R200 000 for becoming the first South African to complete the marathon.
Dijana is only the 18th male runner to win the Comrades Marathon more than once.

Edward Mothibi, the winner in 2019, came in third.
Gerda Steyn of South Africa, who already held the record for the fastest Up Run time, won the women’s competition.
Additionally, she ran the Down Run in a new course record of 05:44:54.
Adele Broodryk and Carla Molinaro finished second and third, respectively, after Steyn.
