With the Gauteng Department of Health releasing stats from the Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital’s neonatal and maternity wards over the past 3-years, Thomas Msengana had a thought.
The Kaya 959 presenter said it was obvious that there are now going to be over 50 000 more people who simply never use the names they were given.
That’s right, 50 661 babies were delivered in Tembisa from 2020 to 2023. This led Thomas to question whether listeners and the Kaya Drive team used the names on their IDs or not.
Both Thomas and Skhumba left listeners shocked when they revealed their “real names”.
While he’s built his career in comedy under his stage name Skhumba Hlophe, listeners laughed out loud at the funny man’s real names.
Yes names, because wait for it, there are quite a few.
Skhumba’s names are – Skhumbuso Rufus Xolani James.
“Who names their child Rufus? That’s the name I gave my pet dog growing up. Rufus as a child? No! What were your parents thinking?” One Kaya listener couldn’t believe that Skhumba was given a name that most people name their pets.
But that’s not all, as the award-winning comedian says he has another official name which is James Dlangamandla.
That’s right, James Dlangamandla.
Promises to not laugh at each other’s real names were soon broken when Thomas revealed his true identity to be, Sabelo Francis Thomas.
Would Thomas have built a successful radio career on his other names? Many didn’t seem to think so and felt the radio personality had made the correct decision to simply call himself, Thomas Msengana on-air.
