Book Review: The Plot to Save South Africa by Justice Malala.
Point of View with Phemelo Motene recently spoke to Justice Malala who gave more insights on his latest book offering ‘The Plot to Save South Africa’
Listen to the full conversation here:
Malala tells the suspenseful tale of the next nine days in her book The Plot to Save South Africa, as the government and Mandela’s ANC struggle mightily to restore order and uncover exactly how high up in the country’s hierarchy the far-right plot extends.
Malala provides a fascinating look at effective leadership in action and a scary reminder of just how close a country we now see as a model for racial reconciliation came to civil war.
He shared with Phemelo Motene how he came to the realization that the story needed to be told, and why history books tend to have an inaccurate account of events.
“I was there o that day in the moment, in that week and for many people like me we have bright these bright flashes of memories of what happened, this is where I was, when Chris Hani was murdered, this is what happened when Nelson Mandela gave a great speech and so forth.”
“Over time I found myself asking if is this what really happened and finding pieces of information that suggested that maybe Justice you don’t really remember what happened. Over time in the last 30 years many people have written about what happened on that day, and increasingly I found myself thinking that is not quite how it happened.” says Malala
