Court throws out Zuma’s private prosecution of Billy Downer and Karyn Maughan with costs.
Former President Jacob Zuma’s private prosecution of State attorney Billy Downer and News24 reporter Karyn Maughan has been overturned by the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
KZN judges Gregory Kruger, Jacqui Henriques and Thokozile Masipa also granted interdicts, stopping Zuma from pursuing any further legal steps or private prosecutions against them.
Zuma had served the two with summonses to appear in court for private prosecution in September of last year.

When the State “leaked” a doctor’s letter to Maughan, according to him, it violated the NPA Act.
The letter had been submitted to the court as evidence in Zuma’s corruption trial.
However, they later contested the summonses and were victorious; the decision was made on Wednesday morning.
Zuma has also been instructed to pay their legal costs.
