The South African government is currently considering whether or not to use power ships to generate electricity. It is a complex decision with both pros and cons. The government will need to weigh all of the factors carefully before making a decision.
Vrye Weekbald published an article, asking if power ships are a disaster or salvation. CEO of OUTA, Wayne Duvenage, joined 959 Breakfast to weigh in on this and spoke about the organization’s long legal battle with the government against the Karpowership deal.
Wayne Duvenage believes that power ships are “not the right solution.” He points out that the cost of the Karpowership deal is estimated at “R220 billion for a 20-year contract.” He believes the money could be better spent on other energy sources that could be implemented in the same period or quicker.
In addition to this, Duvenage says that power ships have a “negative impact on the environment” and other industries.
Listeners also shared their views, most disagreeing with Wayne’s sentiments.
