Hebron Maponya, Founder of GMC Creations is this week’s entrepreneur on the move, talking about how he’s navigating the business sector with challenges such as loadshedding and the current economic climate.
GMC Creations provides advertising and marketing to the hair and beauty sector, and fashion boutiques nationwide.
Despite the challenging, yet exciting times, Maponya says he was inspired to tap into this space because he saw a gap in the market.
“There was simply a lack of advertising space for hair salons and also fashion boutiques in South Africa and the African continent at large.
What I’ve discovered is that businesses require growth and investment, and as a result of their businesses not being proficient and lacking a professional eye basically, how does this give potential investors an appetite to invest?”

Maponya is a qualified media practitioner with vested interest on the growth, influence and impact of new media online.
He says he has a clear outlook on future development in the corporate sector focused on disruptive business practices and innovation.
The young entrepreneur says that a lot of businesses are discouraged, especially those in townships and rural areas, because they don’t know how to market their products and services.
Although there is a high demand for his clients products and services, because business owners don’t have the means or knowledge, their businesses suffer and that is how GMC Creations can help.
“What happens in townships and rural areas is that there might be a number of hair salons close to each other with both competing for the same market.
Instead of focusing on one service or product, such as weaves, or men’s grooming, a lot of salons want to do everything and it’s about identifying what your niche service or product is.”
