South African radio and television presenter, sports commentator, and entrepreneur Robert Marawa opened up about attempts on his life in a recent interview with DJ Fresh on his What A Week podcast.
In 2019, Marawa tweeted, “One day you all will know. It will cost me my life but u will know.” DJ Fresh asked him to shed more light on what he meant with the cryptic tweet.
Marawa revealed that “there have been various attempts” on his life. He clarified that he never had three heart attacks, but rather two. The third time he was in ICU was because his life was in danger.
“I wasn’t exaggerating because it is about life and death. Even when people said I was in the hospital for a heart attack. I never had three heart attacks. I was in ICU.
“The two were purely cardiac and health-related. The third health scare is the one that had a direct threat to my life. It is the one that was reported as a heart attack but it wasn’t. Two heart attacks are scary but that particular one made me feel that I was losing my life. I felt the presence of my life being sucked away,” Marawa explained.
He recalls one of his sisters coming to visit him in ICU. “It was the face of someone ‘looking at a corpse’,” he added.
His relationship with mortality
After everything he’s gone through, Marawa believes it is by the grace of God that he is still alive.
“When I do speak to the man above I do ask him about the purpose for which he allows me to live. I might not know the bigger purpose because I am not God – I ask him to present it to me and I am willing to do what it takes. I have come so close so many times that I don’t believe it is a space I ought to be in. I don’t believe that I should be here but he believes and that’s the only person that really matters,” expressed Marawa.
“I think that purpose is manifesting itself and I am made stronger by that. And anybody who is human and wants to break that faces a very difficult task.”
