City of Joburg Mayor, Kabelo Gwamanda’s educational qualifications are being questioned, after it was reported that the newly elected mayor doesn’t have a matric certificate.
On Sunday, 14 May, Carte Blanche reported that the Al-Jama-ah member’s highest qualification is a Grade 10 pass.
Not only is Gwamanda being accused of scamming members of the public, but the mayor’s academic qualifications are now under the microscope too.
While Al-Jama-ah President Ganief Hendriks believes that Gwamanda has not only a matric certificate but a diploma too, speculation that the mayor attained these illegally is high.
Kaya Drive host Sizwe Dhlomo pointed out that having academic qualifications is not a pre-requisite for one to get into politics at all.
DA leader, John Steenhuisen’s highest qualification is a matric certificate which he obtained from Northwood School in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
Steenhuisen has been the DA leader since October 2019, and regardless of his lack of academic qualifications, the leader of the opposition retained his position in the party, edging out heavily qualified Mpho Phalatse.
Educational discrepancies aside, Gwamanda is facing serious allegations over financial fraud, where he allegedly scammed and defrauded members of the public in a funeral/investment scheme.
The DA says with such damning information against Gwamanda, he can’t possibly be trusted to oversee more than R70 billion of the City of Joburg’s budget.
