Open Mic Productions has exposed over R8 million in payments allegedly made to singer Makhadzi, who accused the record label of not paying her a cent over the past 3-years.
Makhadzi who has been embroiled in a public battle with Open Mic for the past few weeks, released a statement earlier this month indicating she has parted ways with her management team who have treated her like a “slave.”
On Wednesday, 10 May, Open Mic have issued the Limpopo-born singer, Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, better known by her stage name, Makhadzi with a lawyer’s letter demanding an apology and a retraction of the statements she’s made.
Open Mic have also shared a number of bank payments reportedly from the company to Makhadzi, in the amount of R7.9 million.
An additional R300 000 was paid by Open Mic to TW Property for a deposit on a house in Makhadzi’s name.
Open Mic denied the defamatory and damaging statements, as well as Makhadzi’s allegations that she was mistreated during her 3-year contract with the label.
“Your client alleges she was treated like a “slave” and was not paid a single cent. These allegations are patently false and defamatory.
We annex hereto a schedule of some of the payments advanced by our client to yours, totalling an amount of R7, 956, 084.86, as well as a further payment of R300 000 made by our client to TW Property under the reference “Makhadzi House Deposit.”
In light of the above, our client hereby demands an apology and retraction of the aforesaid false, harmful and defamatory statements, which must also be published through your client’s Twitter and Instagram accounts.”
Makhadzi has until 12h00 on Friday, 12 May to retract her statements, failure to do so may see Open Mic slapping the singer with a lawsuit.
