Former President of the United States, Donald Trump was found guilty of sexually abusing US writer, E Jean Carroll.
A jury reached the verdict against Trump within 3-hours after evidence and testimonies was heard in court.
However, despite the guilty verdict, because the matter was a civil case, Trump will not face any jail time, nor will he be registered as a sexual offender.
All he will have to do is pay the Elle Magazine columnist $5 million in damages.
Trump who rejected the chance to testify in the case, will according to The Independent be appealing the verdict in his sexual assault case.
On 19 October 2022, Donald Trump released a statement denying the sexual assault allegations, saying if he did assault Carroll it should have been reported right away.
“It didn’t happen. And, by the way, if it did happen, it would have been reported right away, within minutes. You’re talking about going to a major floor, the most important floor in a major department store, that’s a very busy store by the way.
That I would be there is the most ridiculous, disgusting story.”
Trump was found guilty of sexually abusing Carroll in a dressing room in Manhattan’s Bergdorf Goodman department store in the 1990s.
The writer who is now, 79-years old, sued Trump for raping her and destroying her reputation.
Trump lied about the encounter and claimed in public interviews that Carroll wasn’t “his type.”
The jury found that Trump did sexually abuse Carrol but did not find any proof that he had raped her.
