The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) assures gold cards carriers that they will be paid until the end of the year.
All grant holders with gold cards that have expired or are about to expire were urged to pick up their replacement gold cards at post offices around the nation by SASSA last month.
This indicates that holders of social grants can continue using their expired cards for withdrawals and purchases at merchant point of sale (POS) terminals and for social grants payments.
But as of December 31, 2023, the Payment Association of South Africa (PASA) has extended the validity of expired SASSA/Postbank Gold Cards.

The public has been forewarned by SASSA about responding to an advertisement that claims the organization is awarding food parcel vouchers. According to a social media promotion, over 980 000 people would receive food parcel vouchers in 2023.
SASSA’s Gauteng and Mpumalanga Executive Manager, Themba Matlou, has said SASSA social grant beneficiaries with gold cards not to panic.
“We would like to inform all social grant beneficiaries with gold cards that have expired and those that are about to expire not to be worried, as the cards’ validity has been extended to end of December 2023,”
“They can still visit SASSA offices to change the method of payment so that they can get their money at their own personal banks. This card can be used at any ATM and machines.”
“Please be alert of the fake information which does not come from SASSA. The agency is not giving out any food parcel vouchers,” said Matlou.
