It’s a cold and wet start to the week for Johannesburg with the South African weather service predicting more isolated showers and thunderstorms on Monday, 08 May.
The weather service issued an alert for disruptive rain resulting in localized flooding over the whole of Gauteng, parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
Temperatures are set to peak to a high of 17°c from a minimum of just 11°c.
Meanwhile, Johannesburg Emergency Services remain on high alert following the persistent rain warning for the province.
Cold, and wet weather is likely to affect several parts of the city, and motorists are urged to exercise caution, maintain a safe following distance, and avoid flooded areas and roads.
Joburg Emergency Services spoksperson, Robert Mulaudzi warned residents in low-lying areas and informal settlements to take precautions.
“We urge our residents in low-lying areas, especially our informal settlements, to monitor the water levels and avoid crossing rivers or streams.
From our side as the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services, we will remain on high alert to make sure that we can be able to respond to any emergencies which might occur throughout all seven regions of the City of Johannesburg.”
