In what is being described as the worst mass shooting in KwaZulu-Natal to date, 10 family members were gunned down in Pietermaritzburg.
Eight women and two men were killed when a group of armed men invaded their home in the early hours of Friday morning.
Neighbours in Imbali, Unit 14 heard several shots fired at 04h00 on Friday, 21 April.
According to Ward Councillor, Mabhungu Mkhize, police confirmed that the bodies of 10 adults were found in the home. There is no confirmation that any children were also part of this shocking massacre.
“This is not different from a massacre, we had a mass shooting last year, but that was four people. This is shocking. I am also going to call family members to see how we can assist.
I went to the scene and police already had tape around. We don’t know what the motive for the mass shooting was, but forensic specialists are still busy at the scene collecting evidence.”
This is the second mass shooting that took place in KwaZulu-Natal over the past 24-hours.
Four men were shot and killed in KwaMashu B section, on Thursday, 20 April. Police say the men were in a room when 4 unknown men barged in and opened fire.
