SANRAL & Government may not be able to write off outstanding e-toll debt.
There may still be no end in sight with the e-toll situation for motorists in the Gauteng province.
Kaya Biz with Gugulethu Mfuphi spoke to Daryl Swanepoel, CEO of Inclusive Society Institute who shared the their organization’s concerns when it comes to the the e-tolls.
LISTEN TO THE FULL CONVERSATION HERE:
The Inclusive Society Institute (ISI), a non-profit organization, believes that the Gauteng provincial government’s plans to write off all outstanding e-toll debts are unfair to those who have been paying their toll fees since 2013.
“As an institute we welcomed what seemed to be moving into the the right direction, we had a concern that we thought it would be wrong to excuse the debt of people that are essentially breaking the law, while not giving relief to people that have been diligently abiding by the law and paying the e-tolls.” says Swanepoel,
They say that the Gauteng provincial government and road agency Sanral may not be able to cancel outstanding e-toll debt, leaving non-paying drivers with the outstanding bill.
