Eskom to implement Stage 3 and 5 load shedding until Wednesday evening.
Stage 3 and Stage 5 load shedding are anticipated to be implemented by state-owned electricity company Eskom until Wednesday night.
Stage 3 will be applied from 5 am to 4 pm on Tuesday, and Stage 5 will follow from 4 pm to 5 morning.
Around 14 940 MW of generating capacity were unavailable owing to unforeseen breakdowns on Monday afternoon, and an additional 7 215 MW were unavailable due to maintenance.

The electricity grid has been put under additional stress due to failures and delays in restoration to service, according to Eskom, despite the fact that a generation unit has been put back into service at Lethabo and Matimba power stations, respectively, since Sunday.
“In the same period, two generating units at Kriel Power Station and a generating unit at Kendal Power Station were taken offline for repairs. The delays in returning a unit to service at Camden, Lethabo, Kriel, Medupi and Tutuka power stations have contributed to the capacity constraints.
“Further, the expected increase in demand after the Easter weekend will put additional strain on the power generation system and may require an increase in the stage of load shedding at short notice.”
