NASA’s next mission to the Moon will for the first time, have a woman and a black man.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronauts Christina Hammock Koch, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen will become the first astronauts to venture that deep into space since the historic Apollo missions ended in 1972.
The Artemis II journey around the Moon will be conducted by NASA astronaut Christina Koch, who currently holds the record for the longest solo space flight by a woman.
Koch will serve as a mission specialist on the mission.
As the first black man to participate in a lunar journey, NASA’s Victor Glover, a naval aviator, will pilot the Orion spacecraft that circles the Moon in November 2024.
The 10-day Artemis II mission will test NASA’s powerful Space Launch System rocket as well as the life-support systems aboard the Orion spacecraft.
