The city of Tshwane has described Mthokozisi Ntumba as one of the brightest Town Planners employed by the municipality.
Police allegedly shot him with rubber bullets as he left a clinic in De Beer Street in Braamfontein.
He leaves behind a wife and four children. Calls have been made for the street to be renamed after him.
Ntumba worked for Tshwane’s Human Settlements Department as a Process Planner in 2016.
The city will be holding a memorial service for him today at Tshwane House.
Tshwane spokesperson Selby Bokaba say Ntumba will be laid to rest in his hometown of Bergville in KZN on Saturday.

Artists pay tribute to Mthokozisi Ntumba
Meanwhile, a group of artists is expected to perform in Braamfontein to remember Mthokozisi Ntumba.
The artists will gather on what is now unofficially being called ‘Ntumba Street’.
They will also be using their performances to intensify the call for free higher education.

Police officers arrested
Four police officers have been arrested in connection with Ntumba’s death.
“These are police officers from the public order policing, and these officers are facing various charges.
“These charges include murder, three counts of attempted murder, as well as defeating the ends of justice and will be appearing at the Joburg Magistrate Court,” Ndileka Cola, IPID spokesperson told Kaya 959.
