The Health Department says it expects to receive more doses of COVID-19 vaccines this week. A third batch of the Johnson and Johnson vaccines arrived in the country on Saturday and have been distributed.
The total number of vaccines administered to health workers is now 145,544.
The Department of Health says 50 more inoculation sites have been identified.

The South African Medical Association’s Dr Angelique Coetzee says she fears there will be more challenges when the country begins phase two of the vaccination program.
According to gov. za, South Africa has secured 11-million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Of these doses, 2.8-million doses will be delivered in the second quarter and the rest spread throughout the year.

Phases of the vaccine rollout
“Our target is to vaccinate 67% of the population by the end of 2021, which will allow us to achieve herd immunity,” states the government website.
Below is the vaccine rollout as stipulated on the site:
– Phase 1 will focus on frontline healthcare workers
– Phase 2 will vaccinate essential workers, persons in congregate settings, persons over 60 years, and persons over 18 years with co-morbidities.
– Phase 3 will focus on persons older than 18 years, targeting 22,500,000 of the population.
