“The streets are calling”- says Malema in a National Shutdown clarion call speech.
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has urged South Africans to speak up, declaring that “the streets are calling.”
Malema urged South Africans to take action and occupy the streets in a fiery video greeting before the anticipated National Shutdown on March 20.
The shutdown has been called over the electricity crisis, service-delivery issues and what they refer to as the ‘mis-leadership’ of President Cyril Ramaphosa. They have also called for the resignation of the president.
Malema emphasized how high unemployment was in the nation and said it could no longer be allowed.

He also addressed the load-shedding crisis, urging those impacted to rise up and express their exhaustion to the ANC government.
The EFF leader discussed issues such as gender-based violence, expensive living costs, crime, and the state of education and healthcare.
“Many townships do not have water, and [in] the villages, electricity is a privilege of the few. Potholes are right in front of each and every house, and anyone who denies that there are potholes, he’s hallucinating. Businesses are closing all over South Africa.” said Malema.
