Popular Soweto band Urban Village are doing amazing things in the States.
They recently had a massive billboard of themselves in the famous Times Square in New York City.
The band, which is made up of Soweto natives Lerato Lichaba, Simangaliso Dlamini, Tubatsi Moloi and Xolani Mtshali blend folk, Zulu rock, Xhosa funk, mbaqanga, and maskandi.
This fusion of South African sounds has made them stand out from the crowd and given them an edge in the international market.
Their sound,as they say is “steeped in the cultural consciousness of yesteryear, including the famous “ubuntu (common humanity)” and Pan Africanism dear to the leaders of the struggles; Winne & Nelson Mandela, Biko, Machel, Mathai, Nkrumah, and Lumumba…”
