Chinese leader Xi Jinping gets a third term as president.
Friday’s parliamentary session saw Xi Jinping secure an unprecedented third five-year term as president,
In an election where there was no other contender, the National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s rubber-stamp legislature, voted overwhelmingly in favour of the 69-year-old Xi in the Great Hall of the People.
Reuters reports that after the constitution was altered to remove the conventional two-term restriction for the position, the nearly 3,000 members of the National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s mainly ceremonial parliament, unanimously voted for Xi.
