Bad breath also known as halitosis is an oral health condition where the main symptom is bad-smelling breath.
Chances are that you’ve experienced bad breath at least once in your life or know someone who has.
The general consensus is that bad breath is due to poor oral hygiene. However, this is not always the case as it could be a health condition.
Cavities, gum disease, cracked fillings, and less-than-clean dentures contribute to bad breath.
Then there are the dietary factors such as high-protein/low-carbohydrate diets, acidic foods, sweets, etc.
Tobacco, coffee, and alcohol are also contributing factors.
So finding the cause of the bad breath is the first step toward treating this condition.
Health professionals advise patients to re-evaluate their basic brushing and rinsing techniques. If the bad breath persists then the next step should be to go and see a dentist.
