Lionel Messi wins the 2022 FIFA Best Men’s Player Award.
Lionel Messi defeated Kylian Mbappe for FIFA’s best men’s player honour after defeating him on the World Cup stage.
At the Best FIFA Awards ceremony in France on Monday, Messi was declared the 2022 winner.
Alexia Putellas of FC Barcelona was voted the best female athlete for a second consecutive year.
“It was a crazy year for me,”
“I could fulfill my [World Cup] dream after fighting for it for so long. And in the end it happened, and it was the most beautiful thing of my career. It’s the dream of every player, but very few can achieve it, so I’m thankful to God for being able to do it.”Messi said.

After guiding Argentina to a thrilling win over France in a World Cup final that required penalties, Messi was awarded the honour.
Argentina won its third World Cup title and Messi’s first of his career thanks to his two goals in the championship game.
Mbappe responded with a hat trick but, similar to on Monday, was forced to take second place.
