There wasn’t a dry eye at the Sandton Convention Centre during the memorial service of Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes.
The slain rapper was remembered by many industry giants as a man of God and inspiration to many.
Forbes who will be laid to rest on Saturday, 18 February at a private, provincial funeral, touched the lives of many artists and his friends.
One of Forbes’ protégés Yanga Ntshakaza, professionally known as Yanga Chief spoke about the love the Fela In Versace hitmaker had for his friends.
“To Nadia, thank you for loving my broer. When I asked him about his relationship with you, without hesitation he said, ‘Bruh, this is it. This time it’s for life. Nadia saved my life.’
Not only did Kiernan give love but he was selfless and there were so many times when he pulled me out of my darkness and brought me into his light.
I never thought that I would be standing here today, because to me, he was immortal.”

Yanga’s voice cracked as he held back tears, and promised Forbes’ family that he will always be there.
Forbes who was a die-hard Manchester United supporter is survived by his football loving father, Tony Forbes.
Yanga vowed to always call Tony Forbes whenever the rapper’s team played to keep their tradition and love for the game alive.
Kaya Drive host and friend of the family, Sizwe Dhlomo said there’s no doubt that Kiernan Forbes reached the pinnacle of his hip-hop journey in the country.
“It’s unfair that he was taken from us so soon, before fulfilling everything he aspired to achieve. I can only imagine what more Kiernan could have achieved if he had more time.”

All speakers passed on messages to Kiernan’s 7-year old daughter, Kairo who was emotional throughout the memorial service for her dad.
Cradled in her mother, DJ Zinhle’s arms, Kairo was reminded to always remember the lessons her father passed down to her, because he lives on through her.
The memorial service is still continuing.
