A group of four men who were allegedly kidnapping and robbing members of the LGBTQIA+ community have been arrested in Parktown.
Using a dating app specifically for attracting the queer community, the suspects reportedly lured their victims to secluded places in order to kidnap them and then rob them.
The four suspects were arrested at a restaurant in Parktown, on Sunday 12 February.
SAPS spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said one of the victims, a 26-year old male was hijacked, kidnapped and robbed off his belongings, including his bank cards.
“The men who have been targeting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer community would utilise a dating app designed for this community to target and lure victims to secluded places, kidnap and then rob them.
Several purchases were made on one of the victims cards.”
A case was opened at the Mondeor Police Station on the same day of the incident.
On the day of his alleged kidnapping, the victim’s bank cards, wallet, bag and cellphone were found in possession of the 4 men in the Parktown restaurant.
Swift action by the Anti-Kidnapping Task Team ensured the suspects were apprehended.
The victim’s car, a Mercedes Benz C180 has still not been located.
Thabiso Ndlovu (33), Ndumiso Mahlangu (27), Sibusiso Tshabalala (27), and Elson Nyathi (25) are facing charges of hijacking, kidnapping and extortion.
