Tributes are pouring in for both Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, better known as AKA, and the second victim in the fatal shooting incident, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.
Both men, who were in their late 30s were gunned down in Florida Road, Durban on Friday, 10 February.
Tibz was AKA’s lifelong friend and former manager, and was also a celebrated author and seasoned chef.
Police confirmed that Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane was the second victim who was shot and killed.
Reports that AKA and Tibz were killed in a drive-by shooting have been labelled false. Police say both men were shot at close range after two unknown and armed suspects walked straight up to AKA and Tibz and opened fire.
Paramedics who attended the scene say both men were found with multiple gunshots wounds but unfortunately AKA showed no signs of life and was declared dead on scene.
Tibz was pronounced dead shortly afterwards, when paramedics tried in vain to stabilize him.
ALS paramedic, Garrith Jamieson was one of the first responders on the scene which he described as chaotic.
Speaking to eNCA Jamieson said, “Florida Road is one of the hotspots in Durban and when we arrived on scene it was total chaos. There were people everywhere. People were trying to take videos and SAPS had a tough time getting crowd control in order.
Unfortunately once word started getting out that it was AKA, it attracted a lot more people to the scene of the crime.”
Jamieson said AKA was found outside the restaurant on the pavement, while Tibz’ body was found inside the establishment.
He may have been trying to get to a place of safety and attempted to flee the gunmen .
Tibz managed AKA in the early stages of his career.
