Connie Ferguson has defended her decision to hire her ex-husband Neo Matsunyane on the second season of Kings of Joburg.
Responding to public criticism over Neo’s inclusion on the Netflix series, Ferguson said she didn’t understand why people felt her ex-husband didn’t deserve the role.
“First of all, I’m not the casting director. Some decisions are made independently. With that said, Neo is a brilliant actor, he’s a brilliant performer and he suited the role perfectly, so why not cast Neo, why is there a point of controversy?”

Neo makes his debut on the first episode of the second season and was according to Connie cast by his daughter, Lesedi Matsunyane-Ferguson.
Lesedi took over the role of casting director on the project that the late Shona Ferguson launched.
Public speculation over Neo’s inclusion on the show included people slamming Connie Ferguson for moving on with her ex and insulting her late husband’s legacy.
“The question we should be asking is, was Connie going to hire the ex if the husband was still alive?”
There were rumours that Ferguson and Neo have rekindled their romance but Ferguson did not entertain the gossip.
The second season of Kings of Joburg will be an 8-part series and will continue where the first season ended.
