LISTEN TO THE FULL CONVERSATION:
On Al Jama-ah being a small party in the council
“Even though we are a minority party, we are not limping or disabled as a party. We can deliver, which is why organisations like the ANC, the EFF and Patriotic Alliance had confidence in us, and we are the ones holding the fort. We are the ones leading this thing. We are the ones bringing all parties together.”
On being an ‘interim Mayor’
“The Premier or the Chairperson of the Province clarified the issue of mm being an interim Mayor. We are elected by council democratiaclly, there isn’t any influennce that willl come from outside the structures of council. “
On being a former member of the EFF
“I got to a time where I took time off from politics, I had to refresh my memory and have a different view on how the contrast had changed at the time. Al Jama-ah approached me because I had nothing to do at that time. It was a small thing on a small scale, I was pushing back and my mind and heart were speaking two different languages. I then joined the party and realised that policies are not far removed from the left. This is why even today, it is easier to work with parties that are aligned with the left agenda. [sic]
