President Cyril Ramaphosa cancels his visit to Davos to urgently attend to the energy crisis.
At the 53rd Annual World Economic Forum conference, which starts on Monday, Ramaphosa was slated to serve as the South African delegation’s leader.
The news was made on social media by the presidential spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, who stated that Ramaphosa would be meeting with the board of Eskom, the National Energy Crisis Committee, and leaders of the political parties with representatives in parliament.
“Due to the ongoing energy crisis, President Cyril Ramaphosa has cancelled his working visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos. Currently, the President is convening a meeting with leaders of political parties represented in Parliament, NECCOM [National Energy Crisis Committee] and the Eskom board,”
“President Cyril Ramaphosa has already engaged with the leadership of Eskom and National Energy Crisis Committee (NECCOM) and those meetings will continue. More briefing sessions to key stakeholders will take place during this coming week” Magwenya said.
Ramaphosa was scheduled to attend the annual WEF summit in order to promote South Africa as a top investment location.
