International football player Cristiano Ronaldo is transitioning and settling into his new life in Saudi Arabia after completing his move to the Al-Nassr football team.
The football star has signed a two and a half year contract that is worth £177-million (approx. R3.6 billion) per year at Al-Nassr.
Despite already moving in with his partner Georgina Rodriguez and their five children, there have been a few questions raised about how the unmarried couple would be treated since Saudi Arabia still prohibits cohabitation without a marriage contract.
According to Saudi lawyers local authorities are bound to turn a “blind eye” to the couple cohabiting even though the law forbids unmarried couples from living together.
“Although the laws of the kingdom still prohibit cohabitation without a marriage contract, the authorities have recently started to turn a blind eye and no longer prosecute anyone,” a lawyer toldEFE.
Another lawyer noted that Saudi Arabian authorities would not interfere with this matter because both Cristiano and his partner Georgina are foreigners.
“The Saudi Arabian authorities, today, do not interfere in this matter (in the case of foreigners), but the law continues to prohibit cohabitation outside of marriage”.
