The Centurion suicidal jumper who attempted to hang himself from a bridge on the N1 is in a critical condition.
A middle-aged man believed to be in his 40s had intended to hang himself from the Jean Road Bridge crossing in Centurion on Monday, 19 December.
According to emergency services, the man then fell onto the metal barrier on the road below and sustained serious injuries.
He remains in a critical condition and the reasons for his suicidal attempt is unknown at this stage.
Police have opened an inquest docket which will be investigated when the suicidal jumper is able to answer questions.
The Pretoria Rekord have no details regarding the man’s family but are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
Officials say that unfortunately people do try to take their own lives during the festive season and it’s something that has to be looked into.
“The pressure to provide for their family during the festive period may put someone under severe stress and depression. This may push someone into thinking there’s no way out except to end their life.”
People are advised to seek professional help should they be experiencing suicidal thoughts.
